Murchison Falls National Park is at 3,840km sq and it is one of Uganda’s first national parks. The park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment Lake Albert, River Nile, Budongo forest, and into vast, palm-dotted savanna and hosting 76 mammal and 451 bird species including 23 Albertine rift endemics.

This stretch gives you Uganda’s remarkable wildlife and on game drives you are surely you can spot four of the “big five”, the Buffalos, elephants, lions and leopards except Rhinos. Rhinos can be visited at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary that is if you are driving straight to/from Murchison Falls National Park -Kampala.

On the boat ride to the bottom of the falls, you are guaranteed a wide range of animals at the riverbanks include elephants, giraffes and buffaloes; while hippos, Nile crocodiles and aquatic birds are permanent residents. There a two hours boat cruise headed for the bottom of the falls.  At the end you can decide to go back or take a one-hour hike and enjoy a nature walk to the top of the falls which gives you an exhilarating sight at the top as the falls are pushing through the 7-metre gap.

You can also take a delta boat ride on the Albert Nile where you get a chance to search for the elusive shoe bill stork

Bird watching is fruitful in the park especially in budongo forest. Budongo is also one of the only two places in East Africa where you can find a Yellow-footed Flycatcher and Puvel’s illadopsis. Other specials include Lemon-bellied crombec, Blue-breasted kingfisher, African dwarf kingfisher, Ituri batis, Cassin’s hawk-eagle, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, White-spotted flufftail, Chocolate-backed kingfisher, Yellow-footed Flycatcher, Grey-headed sunbird, crowned eagle. Chimpanzee trekking and habituation can also take place in the forest,
